Spent part of today at Popham Beach with Katie, Jared and the grandkids. At home it was bright and sunny, but by the time we got to the beach, it was foggy and cooler...strange looking. I got to read some and watch the kids play in the sand and surf...even baby Wesley!

woohoo, found a tye-dye background. figured it was time for a new post...been a little delinquent in posting lately.

the garden was a dud, no lilacs...but the bright spot was my peonies did bloom! and they smell sooo good.

i think i might plant some lily of the valley next yea., when i was growing up, my next door neighbor gave me some to plant in my little round backyard garden. i remember how beautiful they were and how good they smelled!

Here is the lilac bush that came from Somerset Avenue in Princess Anne, MD. It now resides in Woolwich, ME and has been here for about 4 years. It's adventure in blooming will be chronicled here this year.

Year number 1, 2 blossoms.

Year number 2, 2 blossoms.

Year number 3, many blossoms that were scorched off due to the rather large bonfire that was too close to the garden.

Year number 4, we shall see.

Calm before the craziness??? I finished all of my classes and have gotten all my grades posted. Woohoo!!! Right now, I am studying for the comprehensive exit exam and then I will be officially a graduate! After the test, the job hunt will be on....hoping for a job in Maine, but am willing to relocate for the right job!

My time is already more my own...have a few knitting projects going and am reading some for pleasure! Catching up with some of my early reviewer's books I won.....

Looking forward to Sunday, when William arrives in Maine for Christmas vacation! Hope he doesn't get too cold coming from Atlanta to the frozen Maine. Also, this weekend, Katie and the kids are going to be in town. They will be flying out on Sunday, but we will get to see them before they leave. Yay!

Today is not supposed to get out of the teens. Of course, Katie woke up to -8 up in Rangeley. John has kept the fire going and it is toasty inside. Indy sits right in front of the wood stove, watching the fire. He is so funny.

See, I said not much going on...but I hadn't blogged in a while, so I thought I would update. No pics, though, maybe soon.

Missing Wiggie

Wiggie was my first maine coon (mix) cat after wanting one for many years. His official name was Ludwig, because his original owner had named him Beethovan. At that time, Beethovan was the popular name and movie about a dog. So, I renamed him Ludwig, keeping the theme of his first name.

He disappeared about 6 weeks ago and I miss him. He was a great cat....although, he did have an annoying habit of pulling out his fur and leaving it all around the house. He loved being outside and the times that I would keep him trapped inside, he would be miserable. So, he went back outside, and would come running whenever I would drive up. I am sad that you are gone, Wigler.

Chesapeake Bay Soft Shell Blue Crabs mmmmm..... Before eating, I had to clean them, something I had never done. But I put on my trusty gloves and dove in. Cleaning involves cutting off the eyes and the mouth, that was fun! Then, you lift each side of the shell on top and clean out the "dead man's fingers" or gills. Last, you pull of the apron in the back and waa, la ready to prepare!

Three dozen, woohoo! The flash really brought out the blue. Aren't they pretty?

Tomatoes, I have tomatoes!!! That is so very exciting. 2 of my 3 tomato plants have little tomatoes, the one in the upside down container does not. It was supposed to be the most productive according to all the hype. Go figure!

The tomatoes are planted outside!!! Two in the ground and one in a bucket upside down. Thanks to help from John, with digging, drilling and hauling! We will see how they do.

Also, some knitting. Continuing on with the tomato theme...here are my footies out of "the attack of the killer tomato yarn" I got last summer. It is spunky eclectic yarn and wears great!!! I wore them at work last night!

However, school and work are keeping me busy.

I have had a few recreational moments...watching Joseph ride the dirt bike without training wheels for the first time. Only a couple of tumbles. Of course, almost as much fun was watching
John jog along side of him!

For anyone who doesn't know, Katie is getting married in about 6 weeks. June 28th. It is an exciting time for her, unfortunately, I have the dubious honor of having to find a dress to wear. URRRGGGHHH. Anyone who knows me, knows I am not a stylin' kinda person and Katie has many rules. The worst being I cannot wear cat clothing or tie-dye. that certainly limits my choices! I will try to work within my limitations....

this is one of 3 aloe vera plants I got from my grandmother's house, thanks to Cindy who kept them for me until I could get them here to Maine. I transplanted them into their own separate containers...and now they have babies!!! I am a plant midwife! One small step...

About 3 weeks ago, on a friday, I started receiving Venofer IV. This is an iron preparation that is given intravenously. My hemoglobin has been low for a long time and so my doc suggested trying this.

Easy, right?

NOT.

In the interest of saving time and multitasking, I thought it might be worthwhile to torture the nurses on my unit, whom I love dearly. After getting the ok from the powers that be, and registering as a patient, I got stuck by one of our lovely nurses.

After exclaiming that I had very few veins to choose from, she did choose one. It went right in. Not the most pleasant of experiences, but I did it without numbing...brave me!

So, the pump was running, the medicine was infusing, and I was making phone calls in the lactation office. It was late in the day, almost time to call it over for work. I thought, just a quick check of the email, work email--of course. When lo and behold, my hand started hurting. Now, I had been trying to ignore my vein with its protuberance of tubing attached to a pump on wheels, but, it was getting my attention. I watched it a bit longer, stared at it non-stop actually. The vein was getting inflamed and more sore. So, after a consultation with my official caregivers, out it came.

Then, the fun began. 3 sticks later, it was again flowing into my vein. The antecubital. Yipee. Who would have thought I would have bad veins...of course, my last IV was when William was born.

The following week, only 1 stick, in the hand, very slowly dripping in and NO phone calls or computer work. Just sitting in the chair in the nursery, watching, watching, watching.

This week, after a chat with the ACU folks, I am to get the other 2 doses down there. Well, they didn't like my veins either. Today, 2 sticks and the antecubital was once again the chosen vein.

I can hardly wait for next week...

We ended out travels to our new home state of Maine.

Back then,

we didn't have a street address, now we do.
we didn't have a bathtub, now we do.
we didn't have a septic system, now we do.
we didn't have a deck, now we do.
we didn't have a pretty front door, now we do.
we didn't have completed bedrooms, now we do.

we have have many forms of heat: corn, propane, kerosene, and wood. still not sure what we like best.

we did have a boat in the yard, katie, now we don't.

we had snow in the yard then and we do now as well! not really much, but, hey....

progress continues on.

I got back an assignment with a GREAT grade. It was a series of 3 and the first 2 I did fair on, so I worked really hard to do well on the last one. Needless to say, I was pleased. So, after submitting it and while waiting for the grade, I went back to the fairy name generator. My Fairy Name is:

But, I really like mermaids better, so I decided to see if there was a mermaid name generator. Guess what, there was! Go figure, it is the internet after all! So, my mermaid name can be found in more than one nautical environment. I picked 3, my favorite (warm areas) and where I live. So, my mermaid name(s) are:

Got 2 hats done! I took a fair isle class at the knitting experience and learned to do fair isle. There was enough yarn for 2 hats, slightly different. Lily is wearing my hat.

Most of the rest of my time is spent studying. I just finished Women's Health!!! I signed up for next term, Intrapartum (finally, something I will be knowledgeable in!) and just have to finish up in antepartum, which should be done by the end of March. This is CRAZY!

Well, I left Maine right after the middle of November and I will be on the road home in 2 more days! I am ready to be in my own space again, with my own stuff. Living out of a suitcase is not my favorite way to go! But I did enjoy...
the beautiful blue of the sky one afternoon,
the zoo (one of my fav places)
and dinner with friends!

And many thanks to those who put up with me staying at their places Cindy, Mother, Angela and Cindy!

I had the camera battery issue during my stay and didn't get any pics of the time I spent with the Walker Clan. (hint, hint, send copies) It was so good to see you all. Next time, it will be longer and under happier circumstances, and with my Mr. Walker...

November is Lung Cancer Awareness month, not as well know as Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, but just as important. Support those people that are dealing with this difficult disease and remember those that have gone on after their struggle. Starting tomorrow, school is back on! I will be taking women's health and pharmacology, both of which are supposed to be challanging!

During my break, I have not been knitting or reading as much as I planned. I did get my invite to Ravelry, where I found Librarything. I have spent some time there...They are 2 great sites.

I did sign up for a fair amount of extra time at work, I got to be on call for most of those times!!! Yeah.
